SPA Activities

Our regular meetings are held every three months on Saturday afternoons in London, with occasional extra dates in other cities. You'll hear talks from the country's top astronomers, both amateur and professional, meet fellow enthusiasts, browse though the society's merchandise stall - and enjoy free refreshments! There are usually also two free meetings held at the London Planetarium.

If you can't get to meetings, there's a report published in Popular Astronomy. You can even hire a video of each meeting at very affordable rates.

The SPA's busy year often includes a highly enjoyable observing weekend and visits to research centres.

The weekend get-together is normally an annual event at a field centre in the country. Our sites enjoy splendid skies, and you'll get a great chance to compare different telescopes and observe faint objects which you may not be able to see from home. During the day, there is always a range of interesting talks and activities, and each year the course has a different theme. The weekend is always reasonably priced - you'll enjoy it even if it rains!

There are many centres in Britain carrying out research into astronomy and space, and you'll get the chance to visit some of these. Past outings have included trips to Jodrell Bank and the Mullard Observatory at Cambridge.
